Power Plays for Beginners: Chapter 1:8

Wealth Beyond Words

Silence is more than golden
It holds worlds without price
Hold yourself within it
And watch them unfurl at your feet.

Do not allow your voice to be bought and sold for food, for attention, not even for clean facilities or the opening of doors. Use your voice as you see fit, not every time you feel the pangs of need. Sometimes, the silent stare is more effective. It causes those around you to pause and consider, to attempt to discern your needs and desires rather than instinctively responding to a yowl.

This technique will train those around you to step, for a moment, from their world into yours. Invite them in with calm regard, and hold their eyes until your meaning becomes clear to them. You are teaching them to become aware of the needs of others, a skill from which all will benefit.

Of course, you may use your voice as you see fit to train your companions, but try the technique of silence as well. You may find the results surprising.
