Power Plays for Beginners, Chapter 1:4

Breaking the Law of Inertia

Cats, by nature, are physicists. We explore and challenge the so-called "laws" of this science on a daily basis, shifting our mass at will, levitating despite the pull of gravity, and often exploring alternate dimensions imperceptible to human senses.

Newton's First Law, the Law of Inertia, states that "Objects at rest stay at rest and objects in motion stay in motion, unless acted upon by an outside force." This is what you need to know about the physics of motion: the laws do not apply to you.

Practice being fully at ease, mellow and contemplative, one with the universe. Then, without warning or buildup, practice being in the next room. This is more difficult than it looks. Do not tense your muscles in preparation to move. Do not tense your mind. Simply be fully at rest. Don't plan. Eventually, the mood will strike you, the thought that your body should be elsewhere. Don't stop to contemplate this thought, don't resist it. Simply fly to your feet and land a good few yards away in your intended direction.

Once you have mastered this method of overcoming inertia, many doors will open to you. And if they do not, the impact of your gathered force will make them fly open for your passage.
